Staff, peanuts, books and clothes – all in a regular day for Jan Jan Bureh Nursery

Running a nursery can be a tough job for anyone. But when you have to recruit new teachers, deal with building work, and battle with extreme rain – not to mention care for young children – the job becomes a whole lot harder.
 
Luckily, thanks to a great faculty and an organised head, Jan Jan Bureh keeps going to provide a great education to young children in the local area. 
 
With so much going on at the school, it can be hard to keep up, which is why we are very grateful that they send us updates when they can.

What has been happening at the school – in the words of a trustee
 
Three Early Years advisers visited the nursery on Monday 8th November. They were asked to consider assisting with the:
 
- Appointing of a qualified Early Years curriculum manager.
- Facilitation of training for unqualified staff. 
- Sustainability of the nursery in the future. 
 
The advisers were very surprised by and appreciative of the high standards of hospitality they received at JJB.
 
As a result of this meeting, a suitably qualified candidate for the post of ‘curriculum manager’ has been found and negotiations are currently taking place for him to start ASAP. As he is relocating, we will need to provide accommodation for him. 
 
And now for the saga of the toilet block which was due for completion in August! It seems that the plumber connecting the sewage pipes has been away working on his peanut farm. However, harvesting is finished and so, plumbing can recommence!
 
New chairs, books and clothes 
 
The 23 chairs sent for our reading room are due to arrive at the port any day now. Two local schools have also donated hundreds of new reading scheme books so that in February, when we visit, reading classes can take place and a home reading scheme can be introduced. 
 
The books are awaiting collection for shipping. 
 
The boxes also contain book bags, hundreds of new t-shirts for the children, school uniforms, crayons and scissors. 
 
It’s been a busy week.
